Istin®

The active drug in Istin® is amlodipine. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker and is used in the therapy of hypertension in the dog and cat. Istin® is most commonly used in the cat at a dosage of 0.0625mg/cat pr day. This equals an 1/8 of a tablet daily pr cat, but as the tablets easily crumble you will find that you are giving 1/5-1/8 of a tablet daily. Istin® may be used together with Fortekor®. Studies have shown that therapy with Istin® may take anything from 3-21days before the blood pressure has dropped significantly.
